Last week was the week when I decided to turn my adopted writing habit into a full-year commitment to produce 7 articles and 1 video per week for the next 12 months. I did this because it would be too easy for me to look at the modest audience and income I have now and conclude that it will never grow beyond that, and then quit before giving writing a proper chance. In related news, I now offer a paid subscription to the blog.
It was also the week in which I raised $300 from my social media followers in order to help me catch up on my bills. That’s the largest amount of money I’ve ever managed to raise on anything. I choose to view this as an indirect reward for the effort I’m putting into this new life I’m building where I’m a full-time content creator.
In terms of the writing itself, I have committed to writing at least 500 words per article, and have been making that goal successfully. However, I’ve come to realise it’s a modest goal, and I hope to write double that with time. I’ve already managed several 700-900 word articles, plus one 1200-word article.
Beginning this week, I am also a freelance journalist. My father worked for a newspaper before he retired, and he informed me that they are lacking a reporter in the Oslo area. Oslo is full of freelance journalists, but they’re a small rural newspaper and can’t pay competitive rates. Since I’m just starting out, that doesn’t matter to me. It’s extra income and an opportunity to gain experience. I contacted them and expressed my interest, and they told me to get out there and start reporting, so wish me luck!
Until next time, please enjoy this week’s digest:
